They started out in Montreal, Canada, but right now they are based in Las Vegas, with other offices in Sydney, Toronto, Calgary, Kiev, Stockholm, Rome, Malta, Dublin, New Jersey and Gibraltar. Side City specializes in offering full turnkey solutions to other gaming companies.
Side City has been established in 1999, as a game developer that offered their services to companies from all over the world, mostly for slots designed for use in land-based casinos. Little is known about most of their history, as they seem to have worked for others, but since 2015 they were acquired by NYX, one of the largest groups of gaming companies, including the likes of Amaya or NextGen alongside Side City. They started working on more slot machines since they were bought, and these days they have several slot machines on the market, while they continue to work with the land-based, online and social markets, as 3rd party suppliers.

Though a lot of their work is done for other companies, Side City Studios does have a series of slot machines of its own to show off. Wonderhounds is a known one, as is Venice Magic or Jolly’s Gifts. With about 10 slot machines that we know from them, I’m looking forward to seeing more launched in the next years.
The stories and themes that are available from Side City’s slots seem interesting and fun. It’s enough to look at a game like Fortunes of the Dead, Wonderhounds or Wild Dodo, to see that. They have a couple where they didn’t do as well, with Venice Magic, Egyptian Rise and Charms and Witches being two with common topics that aren’t interesting.
Having interesting graphics is something that is important these days. We’re not in the days of dial-up anymore, and companies have the option to create nice designs, even at HD quality. Look at their games and you will see that Side City took advantage of that in some of them, while in others the graphics are nowhere near as interesting as they should be.
Among the games that I’d recommend if you want great visuals, there are titles like Fortunes of the Amazons, Jolly’s Gifts or Wild Dodo. Even in some of those you might find symbols that have Royal cards among them, but the rest of the graphics are going to be of excellent quality. I’m not as much of a fan of titles like Venice Magic though, not when it comes to the visuals aspect.
One thing that I enjoy seeing in slot machines is that the developer tries to include unique features, so the theme and design aren’t the only ones that allow them to be different from their competitors. I’ve noticed Side City doing good work in the features of their games. They do have the standard features, like wilds, free spins or scatters, but they also include some random bonuses or wilds, re-spins, bonus wheels, stacked symbols and others. Thanks to those unique elements, each game that I’ve played seems unique and not just a reskinned clone of a previous one.
Payout wise, the game gives everyone a different experience. Several of their games are going to have smaller top payouts, usually set to 500x or 750x the line bet, but there are exceptions as well, and in Wild Dodo you can walk away with a payout of 10,000x. Having such low top payouts, the games usually compensate through their features or multipliers.
The RTP is mostly between 95% and 96% in their slot machines, but there are some exceptions, and Wild Dodo is one to watch out for in that regard, since it’s going to pay at 97.015% over the entire lifetime of the slot.
