Popping Pinatas Slot Review
|Release date||Dec 2019|
|Betting Range (€/$)||0.50 - 125|
With a story that revolves around a Mexican party, Popping Pinatas is not unusual for a modern slot machine, as we’re seeing a couple of similar titles released each year. Rival Gaming did a decent job on every other aspect of the slot though, at least when it comes to design and payouts, but there will be some cons to explore here as well.
You have a lot of chances to get a prize with Popping Pinatas, since it offers 50 active lines on its 5x3 reels. Top wins of up to 2,500x the stake, or $312,500, look good enough for any newest slot game, but the 94.35% RTP is a lot less attractive. Moving on to the game’s major features, those include a Day Round Puppy Wild, as well as a Pinata Bird Wild in the Night Round, along with scatters and bonus games.
Betting and Prizes
You get to play around with the betting options, and while I’d recommend sticking with wagers which cover all 50 lines, there is the variant to decrease the number of active paylines as well. Otherwise, you can spend between $0.50 and $125 per spin, using as many as 10 coins of $0.25 on each line.
It’s the regular combinations that will provide you with the best rewards here, with the Dancer symbol giving you as much as 2,500x the line bet on each line that it fully covers. Given the possibility of having a full screen of such symbols (and maybe wilds as well), the game could pay up to 2,500x the stake ($312,500 maximum possible prize).
While I consider the top prize to be pretty good, I’m a lot less excited about the 94.35% RTP that I’ve seen mentioned for this game. As most decent slots are at 96% or higher right now, Rival’s offer with Popping Pinatas is disappointingly low.
Popping Pinatas Slot Features
Depending on the mode that you’re in, Day or Night, there are two different wild symbols that can appear on the reels, to help you out in several ways. These are both replacement symbols for others, but they also pay directly, when given the chance. The Day Round wild pays up to 1,000x, while the Night Round wild pays up to 750x.
There is a scatter symbol as well, the one with the Skull. It also pays, but a lot less, and it also triggers the Night Round mode. You can get this scatter in the Day Rounds only. At the same time, there is a chance that it will trigger a bonus game called Find Pequeno.
Bonus symbols come in two variants, but the result is the same, the possibility to trigger a bonus game. The Day Round bonus has the Donkey Pinata symbol and a Pinata Popping bonus game, while the Night Round has the Perdido sign, with the Find Pequeno bonus.
Theme & Design
It’s a fairly common theme, though it’s well done here. There are animated Mexican singers constantly present next to the reels, a beautiful dancer that pops in at times, and the street of a local town in the background. Moving to the reels, there are themed symbols only there.
First, the feature symbols give us images of Pequeno, of a Toucan Pinata, Skulls, Donkey Pinata and a Lost Dog Poster. Second, as regular symbols we find the Dancer, two singers, trumpet, guitar, hat, noise makers, tequila and three types of peppers (yellow, orange and green).
Popping Pinatas does several things right, and if it wasn’t for that below average RTP of 94.35%, I’d actually recommend you give it a try. As it is though, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it.
