The Matrix Slot Machine

The Matrix was released in 1999, but it took developers 18 years to get the license and come up with a slot machine that is based on this hugely popular film. We’re getting that from Playtech eventually, though the game is released in 2017.

The Matrix is heavily based on the original film, feature wise at least, since it offers Agent Smith Free Games, Nebuchadnezzar Unlimited Free Games, a Déjà vu Shuffle, Black Cat wilds, Neo wilds and scatters. The layout is generous enough, with 5 reels getting 50 active lines. You can win a jackpot of $10,000 by playing this game at its maximum wager.

The Matrix Betting and Prizes

You can expect to be able to set up wagers of up to $100 per spin, where the lines are each getting up to $2. You can spend as little as $0.01 as well if you want to though, which would mean that the wagers could start from $0.50. Either way, you can’t modify the number of active lines, just the amount that they’re getting.

When it comes to the bigger rewards, you’re just going to have the wild symbol forming combinations and paying up to 500 coins, or up to $1,000. The game’s average RTP is a bit lower than those from other modern titles, being at 95.14%.

Features

An obvious first feature to mention is the one that’s showing us the picture of Neo, in the green Matrix code style. This symbol is acting as a substitute for any other symbols that might need it, and it can also be part of a combination of its own. The slot’s best payouts, of up to 500 coins, are going to come from it. There is only one symbol that a Neo Wild can’t substitute for, and that’s the Free Games scatter.

There is a second wild symbol available in this game, with the image of a Black Cat on it. It’s reserved for reel 5 and it can replace the same symbols that the wild can, the scatter being the exception once again. If you cover the entire 5th reel with this Black Cat wild, then it will be duplicated to reel 1 as well, after which a feature called Deja Fu Shuffle will be activated. This will shuffle around the symbols on the screen, giving you a chance to form new wins with the help of the 8 Black Cat wilds now present on the reels.

The Matrix has two different free games modes to offer, but to get to that choice you first need three scatter symbols present on reels 1, 3 and 5. Those scatters get simple logos, with the words Free Games on them. They’re modeled after the Red/Blue Pill choice, those two being the colors associated with the game modes.

The Red Agent Smith free games have 8 spins to give you. During these spins, there will be an overwhelming of the reels with Agent Smith icons. Each spin gets additional Agent Smith symbols. There are good odds of landing some huge wins during these free spins. You can’t retrigger the feature.

As for the second choice, with the Nebuchadnezzar free games, those give you an unlimited number of rounds, with wild symbols swarming to the reels. The spins end if you get four or more such wilds on the reels at the same time.

Theme & Design

It’s a game which looks half-modern, though it is based on a film from 1999. It keeps many of the green code like graphics of The Matrix, along with the characters from the film. You have a version of Neo in code like form, along with other actors which are more visible.

Conclusion

Playtech did well with The Matrix, I just wish they launched it sooner and we didn’t have to wait until 2017 to get a slot machine based on the film.
