The potential is on the high side, and so it’s not a surprise that payouts of over 10,000x the stake are a possibility. The Power Zones system is one of the elements that contribute to the game’s mechanics, along with free spins and Mega Spins.

Betting and Prizes

The range of bets possible in Legend of Hydra allow for $0.10 to $200, to be used on each spin, while using 40 coins. The slot’s going to give you all its ways to win either way, but the amount that you can take home will vary accordingly.

Legend of Hydra: Power Zones Game Features

Before we get to the Power Zones, let’s see what basic features are available in Legend of Hydra.

The Wild Crown is one such feature, and a symbol that’s used as a replacement for others, if that gets you some kind of win via the ways to win system. Its presence on the right reel is all that is required.

The Power Zones are areas surrounded by fire, which can show up and be locked on the reels, as a result of special overlay fire symbols which land on regular symbols. Their appearance will bring and lock the Power Zones to the reels. If you get an additional fire symbol in an existing Power Zone, then all the symbols inside will be turned into a single type of icon, giving you better odds of forming combinations with it. Once that happens, the Power Zones are removed.

Hydra Features are also important to the game, but they’re completely random. Unlocking additional Hydra features is possible over time though, as you collect the fire symbols in a special meter. A total of four different Hydra Features can be unlocked this way, by filling up the meter just as many times. Once you get there, filling the meter again will result in a free respin, where a random Hydra feature is active. Of course, you also get these features at random.

These Hydra Features come in four variants, which can:

add random wilds to the reels,
add additional Power Zones,
add win multiplier Power Zones,
or transform all Power Zones into mystery symbols.

Next, the Bonus Hydra Coin, which acts as a scatter, with 3 or more acting as triggers for the free spins (Mighty Hydra feature). 12 to 50 free spins trigger, but the feature can also be retriggered via 2 to 6 more symbols, getting you 3 to 50 more rounds. You start the feature with Power Zones formed where the triggering symbols were, and they are sticky for the entire feature. Once you reach the end, you also get one MegaSpin, with Power Zones turned into a single mystery symbol.

Theme & Design

Hydra, the serpent with many heads, is well known from Greek mythology, and it’s been a main character of several slot machines already. We’re seeing a version of it here, with four heads which will bring you various features as you play. As symbols, the slot has the Hydra Coins, Wild Crowns, along with the king, queen, as well as four other characters, which are showing us warriors and wizards. For the last six paying symbols, the lowest value ones, we get the four card suits and two icons with the Sun and Moon.

Conclusion

Legend of Hydra is a good game, with plenty of chances for you to win, and with generous top prizes that could come your way. While I’m not a fan of its very low paying individual combinations, the Power Zones and the rest of its features do help make it profitable enough on average, that a 96.56% RTP becomes possible.
