Dragon Champions has been created by Playtech and it offers at the same time a relatively common theme, yet a cool one, while using a layout that’s rarely chosen by developers. Layout aside, you’re looking at a slot machine with a dragon and knight theme, the usual mix that has its roots in legends of the Middle Ages.
Now, when it comes to the layout the choices made are a bit more unique. You’re looking at a mix of 6x4 reels, which allows for a total of 4096 ways to win. You don’t get huge wins, only up to $800 for a combo, but there are as many as 100 free spins to be triggered, plus wilds and scatters, or the Blue Dragonfire expanding feature.
The game relies on 4096 ways to win, but asks the player to cover only 40 active lines with bets each round. Since a bet on one line can vary between $0.01 and $2, the total bet of the slot will vary between $0.40 and $80. That’s not a bad betting range to rely on, and a lot of players will find a value they want to use in it.
If we look at the game’s big rewards, the numbers aren’t as inspiring there. The best one offered will give you 400 coins, so at most $800 can be made through a single winning combination. The game’s feature symbols are the only ones getting logos to show you, and the wild is an example of that. You get a Dragon Champions logo on this symbol, which you will be able to use as a replacement when combined with other regular symbols. Wilds are always more fun to get in slots which get ways to win, since they have an easier time helping you out by appearing on the right reel, not a particular position on it. I haven’t seen many games where wilds would be able to replace a scatter, and they can’t do it here either.
The scatter gets its own logo, which says Free Games and which is placed against an image of a shield with two swords. The scatters don’t pay you anything, but having 3+ present on the reels will trigger the free games. Depending on the number of scatters, with 3 to 6 possible at the start, you can win 8 to 100 free spins. Retriggering free spins is even easier, since you can do it with just two scatters.
If there are symbols with the blue dragonfire background, then they will expand in four directions. The expansion occurs if a win can be created or improved as a result. It doesn’t appear for scatter or wild symbols.
Theme wise, the game offers the type of action that you’ve seen in other slots before it, with the fire breathing dragons present, alongside various mages and warriors that are trying to take them down. The red dragon is accompanied by a mage, a female archer and two knights armed with swords, one male and one female.
