Better Wilds Slot Machine Review

A modern design which gets us the classic fruit symbol line-up that we’re already used to, Better Wilds does make good on its promise, and it delivers a mix of wild symbols and re-spins, for its main features. It’s one of the Playtech slots that are offered in 2020.

Better Wilds features 5x4 reels, so it’s a big game area which gets only 25 active lines. Wilds and re-spins make for a decent mix of features in this one. The RTP is set to 96.42% for this one, and yet there will be only a 500x top jackpot for you to go after.

Betting and Prizes

Look at the bottom of the screen, and you will find the Total Bet option, on the left side. It is adjusted as needed, within the range of $0.05 to $2,500, and it will always cover the available lines. Up to $100 can be wagered per line.

While the game doesn’t offer the biggest payouts around, sometimes a 500x jackpot will be enough, particularly if the Return to Player is also at a decent level. In this particular case, with a 96.42% Return, I’d say that the game worth checking out, you get better than average odds at making a profit from it.

Better Wilds Game Features

It’s not a very elaborate game overall, but it makes good use of its wild symbols, combining them with a re-spins feature. There is also the matter of the stacked symbols, which you can get to appear, and this applies even to the wilds, which can cover full reels.

The wild symbol is the one helping out with the formation of new combinations, just by landing in the right spots, next to regular matching symbols. It can act as any regular symbol, in the position where it lands, so in that regard it will adapt to whatever is needed of it.

In addition to the WILD symbols, there will also be the Diamonds, which are considered special wilds. Only present on the reels 3 to 5, these are going to trigger the re-spins that I mentioned previously.

As the reels spin on their own, the Special Wild will start moving towards the left side, one position each round. Starting from the second time it moves, the Diamond will expand as well, by one position and in either an upwards or downwards direction. This happens for each round that follows. To retrigger the re-spins, you just need additional wilds landing on the last three reels. Only once you get the last Diamond wild to reach the leftmost reel, does the feature end.

Theme & Design

Theme wise, Better Wilds focuses heavily on the classic symbols, the ones borrowed from the pub fruit slot machines of the past. I did appreciate the improvement of the design here, compared with those classics that it borrows from. However, that doesn’t mean that there are new symbols to be found inside. You get only icons that you’re familiar with, just prettier. We’re talking about Emeralds, Lucky 7s, Bar logos, Cherries, and unfortunately a group of shiny-looking Royals as well.

Conclusion

Better Wilds will provide you with some simply gameplay, mostly centered around the idea of wild symbols and re-spins, but I’m satisfied at least that the volatility isn’t too high, and the RTP satisfying. Of course, veterans will likely shy away from it, as the top jackpot isn’t that great.
