Among the many Ancient Egypt slots that we get each year, there is this one from Playson, called Rise of Egypt. It features Bastet in the main role, the cat goddess, a warrior and a protector in the ancient civilization’s culture. It’s a game with high end graphics, with a boring theme and with several other pros and cons to its name, about which you will learn more from our review.
Where its gameplay is concerned, it’s a standard slot machine which makes room for 20 lines on its 5 by 3 reels. You do find several good feature symbols in there, such as the scatters giving you free spins, or the expanding wilds which appear on several reels. A jackpot of $40,000 is a possibility, particularly thanks to the expanding wilds which appear on the reels.
Betting and Prizes
Going by the betting system that is used, Rise of Egypt feels like your standard Playson slot, which lets you choose the wager from a menu. The values that they’ve listed there vary from $0.20 to $100, and so for 20 active lines your bets could reach $5.
When it comes to the best wins you can hope for, it’s the regular symbols that deliver them, offering up to $2,000 per combo. While scatters can pay up to $5,000, the jackpot of $40,000 requires 20 winning combinations on all lines, to which I’d imagine the expanding wilds would have a major role in making it happen.
Rise of Egypt Slot Features
Bastet herself appears in one of the symbols of Rise of Egypt. It’s available in the form of a Cat Goddess, which will expand on its reel, if it will result in a new combo forming. As it appears only on the reels 2, 3 and 4, there is no way for you to get rewards from the wilds directly. They’re very important in helping you get multiple winning combinations at the same time, since by expanding they are part of all of them. With three expanding wilds appearing at the same time, it wouldn’t even be that far fetched to hope for a screen filled with 5-symbol combinations.
With one other feature symbol in play, a Pyramid Scatter, you may trigger generous rewards of up to 50x the bet, plus you will also receive 12 free spins. Both for a cash prize and the feature, you need a minimum of three scatters. Additional free spins will be obtained by landing another set of 3+ scatters. Each wild you get adds 1 free spin to the total, plus one symbol with a smaller payout is upgraded to the one from the next position. The highest number of free games in a round is going to be 35.
Theme & Design
While I’m not very impressed with the imagination displayed at work here, in an Ancient Egypt themed game that’s showing us the exact same things as dozens of other recent slots, I found the graphics to be fairly enjoyable. They are showing us a goddess, Bastet, which doesn’t get as much love from these slots, plus the usual icons with pyramids, scarabs, Horus, Eye of Ra, Ankh, lotus flowers and jewels. They even used four Royals at the end.
Overall, Rise of Egypt gets some serious help from its features and the graphics tend to help make it interesting as well. If you’re tired of Ancient Egypt themed slots though, you’re not missing out on that much by skipping it.
