Odin: Protector of Realms is the latest Nordic mythology-themed slot machine that we’ve heard about. It’s one of Play n GO’s titles, very well designed, keeping Odin as a protector of not just the realm, but of the reels as well. Mostly, it’s going to deliver fairly common-looking symbols to the reels, but there are other ways in which it makes you enjoy it.
You’re looking at a 7-reel slot machine, with a hexahedron shape, 4 to 7 symbols present on its columns. It creates winning combinations through Cluster Pays. Cascading reels are included, as a major mechanic that you will constantly take advantage of. Another one is the Forged Ring, or Odin’s Abilities (several modifiers included). There is enough going on, that a 5,000x jackpot is a possibility, and it’s all coming from a medium volatility slot that has a 96.20% RTP.
A wager needs to be at $0.20 or higher, in order for the game to start up. It could go up to $100 as well, so the high roller category is not neglected.
You’re going to find that a 5,000x jackpot, like we see in Odin: Protector of Realms, is standard as a starting top payout in a Play n GO release. For a game with medium volatility, like this one, it’s a very good potential prize. RTP is 96.20%, but with the usual option for online casinos to change its level, if they want to.
Getting paid is possible when you’re forming clusters of winning symbols. You need groups of symbols that are next to each other, touching on one side.
Once a cluster is formed, the Cascading Reels mechanic will trigger, to take away the symbols that already got you paid, and to allow others in their place. Should new clusters form then, the Cascades continue, until that stops happening. It could lead to a lot of wins, triggered as part of the same initial paid spin.
One of the special symbols used inside, the Sword is going to act as a substitute, so it can be combined with regulars, to form new clusters.
Another thing that will happen when you form clusters, besides the cascades, will be that the winning symbols get collected in a special Ring Meter. Get 30+, 70+, or 120+, to access one of the game’s Forged levels. Level 1, 2, or 3, are accessible at the numbers I’ve mentioned, and they give you a guaranteed cluster of 7+ symbols, 12 to 19 symbols, or 20 to 37 symbols. The symbol chosen for this new cluster is the one that is present in the middle of the game area.
And then, there are some random modifiers that may trigger, for rounds where you don’t get a cluster to form yourself. The three possible modifiers are:
Nordic mythology serves as inspiration, hence the use of Odin as protector of the realm, and a constant companion from next to the reels. Getting to the game area though, we find a mix of rune stones (red, purple, blue, green) in the low positions, and images of swords, drinking horns, shields, hammers, in the high value symbols.
It looks good, especially if you check out the giant statues and the star-filled sky from the background, but I just wish that the reels borrowed some of that imagery as well.
Odin: Protector of Realms is not the riskiest slot around, and yet it can pay fairly well. It adds a decent RTP, and good graphics, to the mix of special features that all tend to feel quite different from what’s standard these days.
