After more than 6 years, we’re seeing an update for the Gemix series, in the form of a sequel which shows a lot of promise. Gemix 2 is the name of the game, and it remains a slot with similar graphics and setup to the original, which will improve on the top payouts which can be delivered inside, while other things remain the same. This is one of the many Play n Go slots that we’re going to see in 2021.

Gemix 2 is a Cluster Pays title, which relies on 7x7 reels (49 symbols) to get you paid. 7,500x the stake is the ultimate target inside, and this is for a game which has medium volatility and a 96.20% RTP, so I’m satisfied with those numbers. Various modifiers, a special Crystal Charge meter, along with multipliers and patterns, regular and mega wilds, the list of special features is a fairly long one, as you can see.

Betting and Prizes

As with quite a few other slots from Play n GO, you can select the wager for the round directly, without going for coin values or line bets. The wager can be anywhere from $0.20 to $100.

Individual cluster pays are going to pay up to 200x the stake, but there will be various modifiers and multipliers present, which could help you get to 7,500x the stake, the highest potential reward.

Medium volatility characterizes the gameplay of this one, and RTP looks fine also, at 96.20%. Of course, as with all Play n GO slots, a RTP range is available for the Play’n GO casinos to choose from, so the RTP could also be lower.

Gemix 2 Slot Features

Gemix 2 will spin 7x7 reels and will form clusters of winning symbols via 5+ matching positions, which need to touch in a horizontal or vertical direction. Diagonally doesn’t work. Wins could form with up to 15+ symbols, so you could end up with several types of clusters forming at the same time, since the reels host 49 symbols in total.

A cascade-style mechanic follows any win, so the round doesn’t stop when you get paid. You get new symbols in the locations where you previously formed wins, and the winning symbols will be collected in special meters.

As you form clusters in a single round, and you fill the meter, you trigger one of the four available modifiers. You need 25 winning symbols collected, for that to happen, and 50 in order to get a Super Charge.

Potential modifiers include:

  • Crystal Warp: picks a single type of symbol, and then makes the jump to additional symbol positions.
  • Nova Blast: turns a symbol into an explosive, which clears its position and the adjacent locations.
  • Chain Lightning: uses a lightning bolt between two corners, as a way to transform symbols between those points into a type of symbol shown in a corner.
  • Light Beam: a beam of light will turn other symbol positions into new symbols.

If the Super Charge is triggered instead (50+ winning symbols), then all four modifiers become active, and the round’s wins benefit from a 2x multiplier. Do that again, and the new Super Charge adds to the multiplier again. The limit is at 20x for the multiplier.

I would also mention the presence of a World Pattern, which uses a yellow color for certain positions behind the reels. As you clear symbols found on top of those marked positions, you collect cash in a special bonus, and you can clear the pattern once you uncover it all. If you manage to clear all symbols by using these patterns, you get a pick to make, and that could bring you the bonus towards which you were working.

Random wild symbols are also included, and they take the form of Guardians that show up and deliver 1-2 mega wilds with multipliers, up to 10 regular wilds, spreading wilds, or 1 to 5 sticky wilds.

Theme & Design

Players which tried out the original, will probably find Gemix 2 to be quite similar in terms of design. In fact, it looks about the same as every other candy-themed Cluster Pays slot out there. The genre lacks originality, but the design quality is pretty good even so. It’s a big game area, with various meters and bonuses displayed all around it.

Among its symbols, this game has the multi-colored candy, using red, purple, green, light or dark blue, as well as stars.

Gemix 2 has a lot going on inside, and it should be a type of slot machine that quite a few can get onboard with. There is a lot happening, so it doesn’t get boring easily. I wouldn’t expect those 7,500x wins to be coming too often though.
