Card games were popular a long time before slot machines were invented, and playing cards are often represented as symbols, using either Royals or the card suits. Court of Hearts takes it to the next level, and gives the slot’s theme a focus on playing cards, by borrowing them from the characters mentioned in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (the Red Queen). It’s one of the many Play n GO releases from 2021, and given the source, we expect great graphics and big payouts to be delivered.

Court of Hearts goes with a small number of lines, just 10, and they’re going to use 5 reels to find a place for themselves. What we’re going for, is an 8,500x top jackpot, but we need to keep in mind that it’s considered a 9 out of 10 on the volatility scale. At the same time, the Return to Player is 96.27%, and I’m satisfied with that. On the list of special features, they’ve added cascading wins, wilds, three types of game modifiers, and free spins with increasing multipliers.

Betting and Prizes

$0.10 will be sufficient, as each line gets a $0.01 wager. The highest you can increase the bet, is up to $100, which would put the line bet at $10.

Volatility wise, it’s on the higher end, a 9 out of 10, so while it could’ve been worse, this one’s no picnic either. 8,500x the stake is the big prize that’s waiting for you inside, which is decent, but we’ve seen a lot of real money online slots with similar volatility do even better.

Long-term, it’s looking pretty good, thanks to the 96.27% Return to Player.

Court of Hearts Slot Features

Court of Hearts has a cascading wins system, which will get rid of the winning symbols, and will potentially bring new wins thanks to the symbols which replace them. The cascades will continue for as long as the wins keep forming. Of course, the presence of only 10 lines does hurt this system quite a bit, as we typically see it implemented in ways to win titles, where it can do a lot for the player.

You do get wild symbols as well, and those can be very useful, since you rely on them to help form combinations as substitutes.

Three types of game modifiers will be available, to select from at random, if you get a symbol with the Rabbit Hole to appear.

  • Dormouse: a Mega Wild, sized between 2x2 and 4x3, can appear on the reels.
  • Caterpillar: up to 7 random wilds are added.
  • Cheshire Cat: gives you an expanding wild, and triggers cascading wins. It moves to new reels if you keep getting new combinations thanks to it.

The way to get to the free spins is the common one, via 3 to 5 scatter symbols. Some help may come from a random Rabbit Reward, which gives you 2 scatters, but it’s not guaranteed.

When triggered, the feature has 9 free spins for you. The top symbol is an extra wild. Another good extra is the increasing multiplier, which goes up by 1x after each cascading win. This multiplier only goes up, so it never resets until the feature is over.

Theme & Design

It’s an excellent design from Play n GO, which is based on the story of Alice in Wonderland. The Red Queen is the star and the top paying symbol, while regular symbols found alongside her will include the Dormouse, Caterpillar and Cheshire Cat. I like the design in Court of Hearts, and Play n Go tends to pull off this type of look often, with modern graphics which are pleasant to look at.

Conclusion

Court of Hearts has enough potential and special features to make it worth your while, and about the only thing that I’d object to, is the low number of lines, which add to the volatility and appear to limit the potential of the cascading wins and multipliers considerably.
