Renegades is a game that is being themed around a crew of adventurous women, each more different from the next and apparently belonging to different backgrounds as well. From steampunk style pilots, to the trapper wearing a wild animal’s skin as a costume, you’re seeing a lot of different types of strong women in this game that NextGen Gaming has created.
Renegades is being designed as a slot machine with 243 ways to win, sporting an unusual looking setup with 5x3 reels, where symbols can sometimes cover two positions, either horizontally or vertically. The Renegades can act as scatter symbols, bringing the player access to free spins. Wilds are also employed, along with mega symbols. The top prize appears to reach a maximum value of only $800.
In the usual manner of slot machines which rely on ways to win, Renegades also prefers using paylines when it comes to bet values, rather than ask you to select 243 coins. Instead, you’re using 40 coins each round, for which you have to select the denomination. You can set it between $0.01 and $2, and so the total bet will vary as well, from $0.40 to $80.
You are not going to have huge payouts in this game, not from single combinations at least. Though I’m seeing an excellent average RTP, of 96.37%, the top jackpot offered is at just $800.
If we’re looking at the most basic features available in Renegades, then those would probably be the wild symbols. Showing a gold logo that is placed against a fire background, this symbol has the capability to substitute for almost all symbols, once again the scatter being the exception. You can even have up to five such symbols arranged on the five reels and they will form a combination that will pay up to 250 coins.
Mega Symbols are fun to get here, being icons that lock two or three reels together and then they cover the entire area occupied by them. You can end up with symbols that have 2x3 or 3x3 positions covered, hence the name of Mega Symbols.
Another feature with a big potential would be the one with free spins. Scatter symbols sporting a Bonus logo against an ice background are the culprits in this case. Having three to five Bonus logos appear would result in both a cash prize being awarded and in 8 free spins being triggered. One of Renegade symbols will be chosen to appear on the reels during the free spins, while the others are removed. You also get wilds, scatters and the gemstone symbols. With fewer symbols present, the odds of forming combinations on the ways to win are increased significantly.
The game’s action revolves around five powerful women, adventurers from different parts of the world and backgrounds. We find out more about them from the paytable, where they are mentioned as Raffaela Blaze, Freya Valkyrie of Valhalla, Harriet Hellstorm, Ivy Sabreclaw and Valda Dragonslayer. Two logo symbols are selected for the use as features, while the role of the low paying symbols is fulfilled by five gemstones of different cuts and colored in yellow, purple, blue, red and orange.
Renegades looks like a cool new release from NextGen Gaming, one that makes heroes out of women, which is something we should see more.
