Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist is not just a slot machine with a longer than average title. It’s also a beautifully crafted game, one where the action revolves around the bandits that are trying to rob a train, somewhere in the American Wild West. It’s the typical story for a lot of Western movies, and it’s something that I’ve seen approached in several latest slot machines as well.
A good explanation for the quality of the game’s design lies in the name of the developer that created the slot, which is NetEnt.
With 10 lines offered on 5 reels, it’s not a slot machine that will give you a lot of chances to get the top jackpot of $10,000. When it comes to features, you will discover wilds and scatters, with free spins also triggered (benefiting from regular, expanding, multiplier or spreading wilds).
Betting and Prizes
As usual, NetEnt proposes a setup which involves fixed lines, 10 in this case. The result is that the wager can’t have fewer than 10 coins in it, but it can go up to as many as 100 coins per spin (10 per line). Another way to change up the value of the wager is through the coin denomination, which starts off at $0.01 and gets to $1. The game has a top bet of $100 and a minimum one of $0.10.
The game’s biggest rewards can get to $5,000 when you’re in regular mode, or up to $10,000 during free spins, but only if you get the 2x multiplier wild and it is applied to the right combo of symbols. I’m happy about the RTP of 96.70% which has been announced in this case.
Wild Wild West Slot Features
If you look at the features of The Great Train Heist, you will notice mostly options that a lot of other slots are offering. Things are improved somewhat during the free spins, with the help of a variety of wilds that are used alternatively.
Regular wilds are reserved for the base game rounds, being used there either to pay you directly or to act as substitutes. These wilds are going to pay as much as 500x, which is the highest amount that you can get in the base game. Bonus and scatter symbols can’t be replaced with wilds, but all other symbols can use their help.
The number 7, painted on the front side of a locomotive by the looks of it, will act as the scatter. Having 3, 4 or 5 in view gets you 10, 20 or 30 free spins. This is the more interesting part of the game, as you will be given one of the four types of wilds for the duration of the free spins. You might end up with the same regular wilds, or you might receive expanding wilds, spreading wilds or 2x multiplier wilds.
The third feature is the Pick and Click bonus game, which you get when three Safe scatters are present on the columns 1, 3 and 5. A payout of up to 50x total bet is offered in this bonus game.
Theme & Design
The Wild West theme has been well handled by NetEnt. The background shows you a typical prairie view, with a steam train running across the screen from time to time. Among the symbols, there are images of the various characters that are in the band of train robbers. The comic book style design does a lot to make this slot attractive.
I really enjoyed this game, and for the most part it’s the theme and the excellent design that have made this possible. The features are solid, but there is nothing unique there.
