Hotline 2, the sequel to another popular release of theirs, has just been announced by NetEnt. We’re going back to the 80s, and to Miami. With palm trees, warm weather and beautiful ocean views, along with the street racing that we’ve gotten used to, Hotline 2 delivers the same interesting action as its predecessor, and it remains an excellent option which shows that NetEnt hasn’t lost its touch.
5x3 reels get you started in Hotline 2, along with 243 ways to win, but there will be times that the setup expands to allow for as many as 1,944 ways. The potential payouts, of up to 5,184x, will make the game attractive to a lot of players, particularly since the volatility is only a Medium for that kind of reward. Add an average-sized RTP of 96.05%, and there is enough there to turn this into a must-play title this year.
Betting and Prizes
Relying on 30 coins, and with bets changing from $0.30 to $150, as needed, the game allows all players to try it out, even if they’re looking to invest a bit more per spin.
NetEnt knows how to make a game look good to players, and the possibility of having a big top prize trigger, all while the volatility is kept as low as possible, is a big part of that. In this one, we’re looking at above average rewards of up to 5,184x the stake, all while the volatility is considered only a Medium.
They managed this while keeping the RTP at an average 96.05%, which is just an OK number, nothing great about it.
Hotline 2 Slot Features
You play in a game area which turns the middle three columns into a Hotline zone, where things work out a bit differently.
For one, you will have wilds that gain the ability to expand, whenever they show up on the middle reels. You get to use these as replacement symbols, the usual role reserved to a wild in pretty much all games that use them.
By landing at least three scatter symbols in view, the game can trigger 7 free spins. Once again, the wild symbols have the ability to expand on their reel if they land in the Hotline zone, but they gain an extra ability, and they now expand the reel size as well. The number of positions on the middle three reels can get up to 6 high, and the number of ways to win will get a boost up to 1,944 then.
Hotline is also the name of a feature that you will get during random moments. It will give you up to 3 wild reels when it triggers, to use for that one round.
Theme & Design
The Miami Vice inspired design, which we’ve seen in the first title of the series as well, is once again taking us to an 80s style city. We find the city streets in the background, palm trees to the sides, and a mix of symbols that revolves around four main characters, six low value jewelry icons, along with wilds and scatters. I liked the retro vibe that the game gives, and the design quality is always impressive in NetEnt’s big titles, so this slot is as good as expected.
Hotline 2 manages to add plenty to the series, and it’s an even better game than the first one. Big rewards, excellent graphics, only Medium volatility, these are all ingredients that go well together.
