Aztec Gold: Extra Gold Megaways is announced by iSoftBet, and it’s going to be a slot machine which follows in the footsteps of its successor, which was released in 2019. Mostly, you’re looking at a very similar game to the original, but there are some minor improvements and additional features included, so if I were to choose between the two, I’d go with the newer one. Overall though, they definitely could’ve done better when designing this second title.

You have a small chance at a jackpot worth 20,000x the stake, and the slot’s RTP is set to 96%. Volatility can only be high, for a game which can pay this well. As for the major features, those range from a Hold & Win bonus game which delivers respins, to Mystery symbols, several random bonuses, cascading reels and wilds.
You would think that getting that many ways to win would be expensive, but that’s never the case. Games in this category tend to ask for a fixed amount, in this case between $0.20 and $20, and they deliver everything in exchange, even up to 117,649 ways to win.
The payouts have been improved in Aztec Gold: Extra Gold, but not by a lot. 20,000x the stake is the jackpot that you’re going after inside, while in the original release the rewards could reach 19,200x. If you’re relying on the maximum bet for the triggering spin, wins of up to $400,000 are a possibility.
At the same time, you can’t expect to be able to win big, and to also have good odds at walking away with a profit. The bigger the payout potential, the more people have to lose, in order for the lucky few to reach those highs. It’s only natural. This explains the game’s medium-high volatility, more towards the latter than the former. Luckily, it still has the right RTP level, of 96%, so it’s fair even if risky.
At its core, you will find a couple of mechanics that are often available in Megaways slots. One is the Megaways system, of course, with 6 reels where the number of symbols will be randomly selected for each reel. This way, with 2 to 7 symbols landing on each of those reels, you could get up to 117,649 ways to win.
When forming combinations, the cascading wins mechanic will trigger, and will remove symbols which are involved, and then give you a chance to create other wins. It can keep triggering, for as long as new combinations form this way.
Some help will come from wild symbols, which are available on the middle four reels. As such, they can only act as substitutes, and will not deliver their own prizes.

They get locked in their current positions for the feature, and then 3 re-spins follow. The re-spins reset if you manage to get additional symbols of that type.
In addition to all the cash prizes that you can collect from the bonus symbols, there is also a chance that you will trigger one of the fixed jackpots. Those pay up to 1,000x the stake, but for the best one you need all reels filled with bonus symbols.
The original Aztec Gold slot featured high end graphics, much better than most Megaways titles you will find, and that was part of its appeal. Expect more of the same with Extra Gold, and the same focus on the Aztec civilization. In fact, most of the graphics have remained the same, particularly when it comes to symbols.
Starting with the Royals, 9 to A logos on them, you then get images of the Shaman, Tiger, Snake and Eagle. Wilds and scatters are also present.
Aztec Gold: Extra Gold Megaways looks good, and it’s still a fun game, with great potential and a couple of decent features. It doesn’t improve on the original in a massive way though, which is something you’d expect them to at least try.
