The mafia has interests in all sorts of sordid places, and a harbour at night is the perfect place where you can find them, as they’re trying to smuggle in booze. This is the premise for Dark Harbour, a GameScale release which appears to cover the mafia of the prohibition era.
It’s not exactly a typical setup, but the 21 lines available on 5 reels should be familiar enough. Excellent rewards, even up to 10,000x, will be paid when the player forms the slot’s best combinations. You will encounter wilds and scatters here, one of the latter and two of the former, along with a couple of bonus games.
Betting and Prizes
21 active lines need to be covered by wagers, and this is done with the help of 21 coins. What you pick, is the coin denomination. Its range is $0.10 to $2, which means that a total bet is between $2.10 and $42.
I was quite happy with the rewards that I’ve seen announced inside. Have the wild symbol form a combo, and if it covers a full line, then you get a payout of 10,000 coins, or $20,000. Since you can get these on several lines, the wins should be able to go up to 10,000x, unless the developer placed a cap there.
Dark Harbour Slot Features
Now, moving on to features, there are a couple of them for you to explore. It starts with a wild symbol, showing you a mafia man, in a red symbol. This one’s going to be used as a replacement, same as always, so plenty of smaller wins will be formed with its help. Since it is the symbol that also pays the 10,000x jackpot, I wouldn’t actually expect it to appear often on the reels though.
Another one is a detective-like icon, with scatter at the bottom. Have this one land 2 to 5 times, and rewards of up to 1,000 coins are paid out.
The first of the two bonus games available, the board game is activated when you get five bonus symbols on the same active line. You roll the dice there, and then you advance your token on the board. The further you go, the bigger the payout that you can get. Once you run out of moves, you leave the feature with the last reward you crossed through.
A second bonus game exists, a picking option which you trigger via Safe icons. Once again, it’s a requirement to have five of those symbols on the same active line.
As you can see, there are plenty of features for you to trigger along the way. They’re not always easy to get though, and they’re not particularly rare for slot machines, so the game doesn’t innovate in any way here.
Theme & Design
With a 1920’s inspired mafia theme, Dark Harbour will place the action next to a large ship, in a harbour. The action takes place at night, which is when the smuggling operations would occur. You will encounter among its symbols images of various mafia men, dice, a safe, playing cards, gold bars, cigars, guns, whiskey and ashtrays. It’s not a bad design either, the retro style does well in this case.
Dark Harbour looks like one of the interesting slots from GameScale, a mafia themed title which can pay quite well, and which has a fairly long list of features, even though they’re relatively simple in most respects.
