ELK Studios tends to be a developer that’s worth paying attention to, and while they don’t launch all that many new games, the ones they offer will always be designed at the highest quality. That’s certainly what we’re expecting of their November release as well, a game called Nitropolis. Great graphics, plenty of features and often enough big rewards as well, those are likely to be found in their new title. The idea appears to be centered around a city where various types of pets race against each other, using nitro boosts to give them an edge along the way (hence the title and name of the city).
The game they ended up creating features 6 reels, gets anywhere from 4,096 to 85,155,840 ways, and it could potentially deliver big wins of up to 10,000x the stake. It’s a slot machine where volatility can only be high, but RTP wise it’s giving us reason to be content, since the 96.10% mentioned is within the average of the industry. Moving on to its major features, it’s where we find options like the wild, scatters, respins, Nitro Reels and free spins.
Elk Studios has a certain way of doing things, particularly when it comes to betting. Not only are they giving you the option to pick a wager from $0.20 to $100, but they also include betting strategies that you can activate. As wagers always include 100 coins, the coin denomination can get up to $1.
Now, payout wise, we’re looking at a game which can offer you a 10,000x turn on the round’s bet. It sounds pretty good, but when you take a look at the millions of ways to win that could become available, it’s a shame that you can’t take advantage of more of them at the same time.
The volatility can only be high, that’s to be expected, but what’s important is that the RTP is also OK, at 96.10%, so it’s going to be fair even as it proves to be quite risky to play.
A nuke going off in it, the Mushroom Cloud Wild is an impressive one to get on the reels, and it can be useful as well. As a replacement, you can combine it with any of those many regulars, and new wins can form.
Nitro Reels is an interesting concept, which is one of the innovations from Elk Studios. It will give you a double-stacked symbol, within which you will get multiple symbols (4 to 12). Second chances may come through the Nitro Reels, which can respin to try and get you a win, during losing rounds.
I like that wins tend to bring you additional chances to get combinations. This is possible via Respins that will trigger as a result of a winning round. The symbols which were in the winning combo will be the ones respinning. They only stop doing that when the wins stop coming.
A lot of people will be wishing for the free spins though. Those you get through 3 to 6 scatters, and there are up to 25 free spins delivered as a result. The feature selects one symbol, and gives it the abilities of a scatter, so it will pay just by being present on the reels a minimum of 3 times.
For the free spins, any Nitro Reels that appear, end up remaining in that position, sticky for the entire feature.
Nitropolis is a city of the future, a place where gangs of various pets race against each other on the streets. The four gangs present here are the Dirty Dawgs, Gritty Kitty, Rogue Rats and the Pug Thugs. You get the four logos, the images of the four types of pets, but also Wild Mushroom Clouds, scattered Bonus Engines, or the Royals of low value.
It’s a busy design, but a good one, and the background will feature the image of Nitropolis.
Nitropolis slot looks impressive, and I love the new Nitro Reels and the way they give the game area a boost. Developers keep trying to challenge the Megaways system, and Elk Studios appears to have found an interesting way of doing that.
Overall, a good game for experienced players, those used to taking hits from high volatility slots. I wish the payouts would be better though, it’s the one area where I feel like this slot doesn’t do as well as other slots which can offer huge numbers of ways to win.
