Available via Bally, Gem Machine is a game where you get a simple, not very appealing, gemstone-themed design. As you’re about to find out, it’s not a typical game at all, and this applies to both the way you use the reels and how you can get paid.
You have 1 to 5 active reels each round in Gem Machine, but with no regular lines, just scatter-style payouts. Payout wise, you are looking at a Grand Jackpot of $150,000 for the ultimate target, but also to individual gem-based wins of up to $30,000. Other than the scatter-style symbols and the free spins which can be triggered at times, there are no other features to be found in this game.
Betting and Prizes
You get to pick the number of active reels in this new casino game, since you don’t have regular lines, just scatter-style symbols which pay based on each appearance. As such, you can select 1 to 5 reels, and the wager that you pick is actual for them, not for lines. You spend anywhere from $0.05 to $30 on a reel, with the total getting to as much as $150. The minimum bet for 5 reels is $0.25.
As for the prizes, a single gemstone, if it’s the yellow kind, will pay up to 1,000x the line bet, so $30,000 can be offered for a single symbol. A $250,000 limit has been imposed by the developer on the game’s maximum potential payout for one round.
Another way to get paid well is through the fixed jackpots, multiple variants being available. They trigger via their own Jackpot symbols, when they appear in view, and the best one will pay up to 1,000x the stake, or $150,000.
The RTP for the 5 reels varies between 95% and 97%, as you go from reel 1 to reel 5. It seems to average out at 96%, if you use all five reels.
Gem Machine Slot Features
As I mentioned above, you play this game by setting up the bet per reel, which activates it. When the reels spin, you will notice that they end up displaying a combination of plate-like symbols and gems. The gems are the ones paying you, a random amount, chosen out of three possible values. The plate-style symbols don’t pay anything, you need them to reveal a gem in order for you to get a reward. Only three gems are present on the reels as paying symbols.
Only one feature exists, which you could classify as normal. It’s going to give you free spins, when the feature’s own logo appears at least once on the reels. Each icon of that type will give you 1, 3 or 5 free spins. You may retrigger the free spins, via new symbols of this type, if they appear on the reels.
The only other symbols are the Jackpot triggers, coming in five variants, for just as many fixed rewards.
Theme & Design
The gemstone theme is not that impressive, and the overall design isn’t great. However, Bally used a bit of steampunk in the slot’s design as well, with cogs, wheels and control equipment being visible all around the game’s reels. It improves the design somewhat, but not by a huge amount.
Gem Machine is certainly different, and that could be a good enough pro for it, that people might want to check it out. I’m not crazy about its graphics, they seem to be the slot’s weakest point.
